The two companies have begun exploring opportunities to link the B2B online and face-to-face trading worlds by leveraging their combined strengths, technologies and relationships. The alliance will begin with pilot programmes introducing Alibaba B2B business unit's online secure transactional platforms and business portals for companies participating in select UBM Asia trade fairs. Cross promotional marketing, match-making services and audience development of the two company's brands and networks will be another key aspect in working towards the longer term goal of creating the next generation of on and offline trade experiences.

Pilot programmes for the joint collaboration will begin with UBM Asia's Malaysia International Furniture Fair (MIFF) to be held on 1-5 March 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Finefood Shanghai -- part of Hotelex Shanghai -- to be held 29 March to 1 April 2016 in Shanghai, China; and the co-located Materials Manufacturing & Technology (MM&T) and Fashion Access (FA) fairs to be held 30 March to 1 April 2016 in Hong Kong.

The collaboration will commence with promotions of the UBM fairs to both parties' respective trade audiences and Alibaba will begin offering their Trade Assurance service onsite to select exhibitors. Alibaba's Trade Assurance service allows participating suppliers to offer guarantees on order quality standards and on-time shipment. Further pilots in the second half of 2016 will include additional business match-making components for other UBM Asia events such as Shanghai International Children Baby Maternity Industry Expo (CBME China) and SIGN & LED CHINA fairs.

IWK's Bunus Regional STP is one of the largest and most modern in Kuala Lumpur, encompassing a total sewerage catchment of 70km2 covering north-eastern Kuala Lumpur and Ampang-Ulu Klang areas including TAR College, Wardieburn Camp and Wangsa Maju.

The Bunus Regional STP is in the process of upgrading to increase its treatment loading capacity of sewage discharges from 373,000 population equivalent to 1.1 million. The upgrading work started three months ago and is expected to be completed within three years. "Currently, the treatment plant receives about 65,000 cubic meters of sewage water daily and processes between 20 and 30 cubic meters of treated sludge," said its senior manager (operations), Ruzaini Ahmad.

01-Dec-2015 Half of Retailers Breach Paracetamol Safety Guidelines

Half of high-street retailers are putting patient safety at risk by ignoring paracetamol sales guidelines, an investigation by Chemist+Druggist, a publication for community pharmacists, has revealed.

Six out of 12 retailers investigated by Chemist+Druggist's undercover reporters[1] were happy to give out three 16-tablet packs of paracetamol, despite MHRA guidelines recommending a maximum of two packs per transaction to minimise stockpiling and accidental or impulsive overdose[2].

These retailers included 99p Stores, Costcutter Express, Londis, Poundland, Sainsbury's Local and Tesco, revealed the investigation, published on Friday (November 27).

Two of the retailers - Poundland and 99p Stores - further breached the MHRA's voluntary guidelines[2] by running multi-buy offers on paracetamol.

Aldi, Asda, the Co-operative, Lidl, Morrison's and Waitrose all adhered to the MHRA's best practice guidelines.

The MHRA has pledged to contact all companies found to have breached its guidance in Chemist+Druggist's investigation and will speak to the British Retail Consortium to encourage support for the voluntary measures.

The MHRA guidance on analgesics sales was introduced in 2009 to improve patient safety, but is not enforceable. By law, retailers can sell up to 100 tablets of paracetamol without a prescription.

The Green Shipping Financing Tools (GSFT) currently developed by EIB will focus on de-risking the environmentally focused investments and will be designed for general fleet renewal focused on greener shipping and being incremental to commercial lending. Mark also highlighted that the GSFT will not provide financing to operators that do not have a sustainable business perspective.

Reduction of fuel consumption was also highlighted at the seminar. Dr Toshio Yamatogi, General Manager, Composite Business Department, Nakashima Propeller Co., Ltd shared that the company has been doing research and testing on carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) propellers on smaller vessels and a joint research project they have worked with ClassNK in 2014 on the retrofitting of the main propeller of a 500GT chemical tanker in Japan, resulted in the first application of such technology in the world.

20-Nov-2015 Cosmoprof Asia 2015 Confirms Record Numbers for Its 20th Edition

HONG KONG, Nov. 20, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Cosmoprof Asia celebrated its 20th anniversary from 11 to 13 November at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre with record visitor and exhibitor numbers.

Discover Trends featured innovative products from natural & organic, baby care and men’s care

63,241 visitors from 119 countries and regions attended the event (5.5% increase on last year), of which 40,761 came from outside of Hong Kong (up 7% compared to 2014). There was a significant increase in visitors from the United States and Europe, including Austria, France, Poland, Portugal and Sweden, as well as from emerging markets such as Chile, Thailand, Ukraine and Vietnam.

"Cosmoprof Asia 2015 hosted 2,504 exhibiting companies from 46 countries which is an increase of 6% compared to last year, with an exhibition area of more than 84,000 sqm, a 3% expansion," said Michael Duck, Director of Cosmoprof Asia Ltd "Every year we are witnessing a growth in the show which confirms its importance for the Asian beauty industry".

The international flavour was strong with the participation of 22 national and group pavilions, which include the largest-ever Korean pavilion (a collection of 212 companies over 2,696 sqm) as well as the first-timer Chile.

COSMOPROF ASIA 20th ANNIVERSARY

The 2015 edition of Cosmoprof Asia marked an important milestone for the fair. From its humble beginnings in 1996, Cosmoprof Asia has expanded rapidly to become the most recognised and celebrated event in the beauty sector.

Italy and the USA were recognised as 'Countries of Honour' for their dedicated support and contribution towards the growth of the fair. Italy, with the support of Ministry of Economic Development and ICE – Italian Trade Agency, in collaboration with Cosmetica Italia, organised 107 Italian companies in a dedicated area of 2,338 sqm. ICMAD - The Independent Cosmetic Manufacturers and Distributors supported the participation of 90 companies from the United States occupying 1,867 sqm.

POSITIVE BUSINESS RESULTS

During the three days of the exhibition, visitors took part in events, live demonstrations and seminars, and as well as enhance their industry education. Participants also took advantage of the show's inaugural Match & Meet programme, an online business matching platform designed to facilitate quality meetings between key visitors and exhibitors.

NEW EXHIBITION AREAS

One of the highlights in 2015 was Spot on Beauty, an area of 3,700 sqm dedicated to companies focused on finished products for the spa & wellness, hair, nail, cosmetics & personal care sectors.

As part of Spot on Beauty, Cosmoprof Asia presented the second edition of Boutique, the charitable initiative which this year was dedicated to The Women's Foundation, founded in 2004 to help women in Hong Kong who suffer from domestic violence and social discrimination. Visitors get to select seven travel-size products from the participating companies for a small cash donation. The technical sponsor was HCP Packaging Hong Kong Limited, which produced the gift box. 

Reflecting one of the biggest global trends in the beauty industry today, a new initiative was introduced at the fair called Discover Trends.

This area offered visitors a rich selection of innovative products from the three fastest-growing segments of the cosmetic industry: natural & organic, baby care and men's care. 26 companies from 9 countries took part. Some of the notable exhibitors were Petal Fresh from USA, Rohr Remedy and Manuka Doctor from Australia for natural & organic products; First Light from Australia and Naif from the Netherlands with products dedicated to new-born children and mums; Giesen & Forsthoff from Germany for men's care, specifically men's grooming.

EDUCATION SESSIONS

The free-to-attend Spot on Beauty Forum focused on beauty trends and Asian market development. 12 discussions were held, providing visitors with unique insight into the topical issues facing the industry. Particularly well-attended were the sessions presented by Beautystreams focusing on men's fashion and grooming trends for Spring/Summer 2016, by Centdegres discussing the perfumery trends in Asia and by Organic Monitor presenting the future of natural and organic cosmetics in Asia. Other popular sessions included "Indonesia Ethno Wellness Spa" by the Martha Tilaar Group, and the "Cosmetic Market Update – Japan, Korea and China" presented by Conceptasia Inc.

Adding to the rich calendar of events was International Nail Days at which leading nail professionals shared their knowledge, best practices and forecasts for the nail sector. Well-known nail artists also presented the latest news and trends for colors, decorations and technologies of the future. 

The 8th edition of Cosmoprof Asia Spa Conference was a resounding success. 15 industry speakers shared their know-how and vision on the spa world and offered insights on best practices. Some of the main themes were on creating customer experiences, the evolution of the spa business in China and the growing influence of male clients on the industry.

  • Current President of UBM Advanstar Men's Fashion, Tommy Fazio, has been promoted to the role of President of Retail Fashion. Tommy will be developing and implementing a cohesive retail engagement strategy across the Fashion Group and continuing the development of new programs to connect retailers directly with exhibitors. KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Nov. 6, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 15th edition of the largest beauty show in Malaysia, beautyexpo, closed last week with a 6% increase in visitor numbers compared to the previous year. beautyexpo was held from 16-19 October 2015 at KL Convention centre attracting close to 25,000 visitors and occupying 10,000sqm of exhibition space. "Against the backdrop of challenging global economic conditions, the significant turnout and participation from exhibitors is a strong reflection on how strong the beauty industry is in Malaysia," said M. Visitor numbers were up 7% from the previous year at beautyexpo

Dato' Dzulkifli Mahmud, CEO, Matrade, inaugurated the show and presented a token of appreciation to all supporting associations including TAITRA, Spa & Wellness Association Singapore, CTFA, SMITA and AMSPA including guest speakers, renowned philanthropist Datin Winnie Loo and Dr. Aarthi Francis. To commemorate the 15th anniversary of beautyexpo, Beauty with a Soul was launched. Over 3,000 MYR was raised in a few hours and all proceeds went to the Budimas Charitable Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, providing the well-being of orphans and underprivileged children in Malaysia. HONG KONG, Nov. 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- China-based companies made a big splash at JNA Awards 2015, taking home the most number of trophies handed out during the awards ceremony and gala dinner held in Hong Kong in September. Of this year's 19 awardees, six were from China.

Considered the "Oscars" of the jewellery industry, the JNA Awards drew more than 90 highly qualified entries from Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, the Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Vietnam. Forty-nine Honourees, representing 31 companies, were shortlisted. Following a rigorous judging process, China-based companies won six trophies across 15 categories. The survey uncovered that professional loyalty within the field is high, however professional growth and pay advancements have remained stagnant, with 25% of respondents citing being underpaid as the reason they least like their jobs. This key finding makes it apparent that changes to position and pay advancements for enterprise communications professionals must be made by organizations in order for them to retain the talent that will ensure continued business success.

The 2015 Career & Salary Survey for Enterprise Communications survey was administered to more than 600 IT professionals (within the Enterprise Connect community) focused on communications.  Respondents represented various industries, including education, training, finance, banking, accounting, government medical, heath and pharmaceutical.

The whitepaper dives into multiple facets within the career of an enterprise communications/IT professional, including:

Career By the Numbers: A Loyal Bunch
The career lengths and experiences of respondents varied.

  • Of those seasoned IT professionals surveyed, 72% have been with the same employer for more than six years, 66% have been in IT/communications for 16-plus years and 51% have been in their current position for more than six years.
  • The survey also gains insight into how professionals feel about their jobs, with 31% revealing technology is the reason they like their job and 25% stating being underpaid is why they least like their job.

Technology Expertise
The level of technology knowledge was surveyed, including the categories of telecom/communications, IP networking, video conferencing, IT security, audio/visual systems, datacenter management/networking, mobility systems, application development and Other. Telecom/communications naturally topped the list among the majority of communications respondents, with an overall 82% reporting that they possess this technology expertise.

Earnings
The survey found that 20% of those surveyed earn less than $60,000 and 53% of communications respondents earn between $60,000 and $100,000. As for earning potential, only a small fraction of those surveyed received a raise of 6% or higher as a result of performance or additional training and education.

Career Advancement
Respondents were split on whether or not they believe their employers are committed to providing career advancement opportunities. Of those surveyed, 39% felt their employers provided such opportunities, while 27% believed career growth was not a priority to upper management.

SHENZHEN, China, Oct. 28, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1st International Forum, Sapphire Market and Technologies, organized by the "More than Moore" market research and strategy consulting company Yole Developpement (Yole) and hosted by the China International Optoelectronic Expo (CIOE), took place from August 31 to September 1, 2015 in Shenzhen, China and gathered close to 230 participants.

The audience included multiple CEOs and high level executives representing the entire sapphire ecosystem, including investors and sapphire component users such as LED makers and consumer electronic companies.

The event came at a critical time. "Since the late 1990s, the growth of the sapphire industry has resulted from adoption of LEDs in small and large displays," says Eric Virey, Senior Analyst and author of the recent Sapphire Applications & Market 2015: from LED to Consumer Electronics market report (August 2015, Yole Developpement).

The forum covered all key aspects of the value chain in a stimulating format which, according to participants, provided a "perfect balance between market and technical content."
